Texas state police affirmed that 16 individuals died on Saturday in the accident of a hot-air balloon, which observers said struck power transmission lines and burst into flares before diving into a field.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the accident, one of the deadliest hot air balloon mishappening on record, happened close Lockhart, around 30 miles (50 km) south of Austin and that no less than 16 individuals were on board.
